What is Giclée printing and what makes it so special?

Giclée (pronounced gee-klay) was initially coined by printmaker Jack Duganne in 1991. Today, it's used to describe fine art printing using pigment based, archival quality inks, manufactured on fancy inkjet printers.

Instead of the usual CMYK 4-colour combination, Giclée printers use up to 12 individual colours. This means our prints are always bold and vibrant. Our name is Colourplay after all! Giclée printing also means your wall art will last for decades, the colours will stay just as bright as the day your received it. Winner!

I haven’t yet received my order but got a dispatch email days ago. When is my super fun wall art going to arrive, please?

We’re so sorry you haven’t yet received your package you’ve been waiting for. As our prints are made to order, dispatch times may vary. Please allow up to 7-working days from the time of your shipping confirmation email. If this time has passed and it still isn’t with you, please drop us an email so we can track down your order as soon as possible.

I would like to commission a custom print, is this something you do?

Sure! This is something we would love to offer as a permanent service in the future. We love that you’d like a custom print from us and are super flattered. If you have an idea for your print (e.g. a cool character or hand-lettering of a loved ones name) please feel free to get in touch so we can talk about it!

Do you offer a framing service?

We did initially plan on offering custom framing through our printers. However, due to the astronomical rise in costs lately the pricing was working out way too high for our customers. This is something we will continue to research as we grow, but right now we do not offer framing.

We recommend good quality frames from Desenio and John Lewis. All of which are affordable options (we know times are hard for many right now and we just couldn’t charge the earth for a frame). You could also visit your local framers for a custom, made to order frame - shop small!

Alternatively, we love seeing our prints being displayed in fun ways. Print clips, hangers or good old washi tape works wonders.

I read that you plant a tree for every order, how do you make this magic happen?

Great question. We work in partnership with Ecologi to plant one tree for every one of your orders. This is on our to-do list each month, where we take count of our orders and manually plant trees in our “virtual forest”. We don’t actually do the digging, but instead sit back and watch our forest grow which each order we receive.

We will be sharing this information with our customers via newsletters and follow up emails after ordering with us. So make sure you sign up if you’d like to see the difference you’ve made to our planet (or if you just straight up love trees).

I’d really love to stock your prints in my cool shop. Do you do wholesale?

We will be offering wholesale to select stockists in the near future. Please drop us an email about this and we will put your lovely shop on our list. Once we have everything in place, we will contact you right away about becoming a stockist. We can’t wait!
